Celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee - 5th June 2012

  • Celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee - 5th June 2012

Let's fly the flag for Britain and the Diamond Jubilee! This year sees not only the celebration of the London 2012 Olympics but the Diamond Jubilee too. Only one other British monarch has celebrated a Diamond Jubilee - Queen Victoria back in 1897.

Street parties and celebrations will be held across the UK over the extended bank holiday weekend, so why not enjoy adding to the celebrations with our range of Jubilee lanterns, party parasols and Jubilee pom poms. Buckingham Palace has announced the following plans to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee:

  • 2nd June - the Queen will attend the Epson Derby
  • 3rd June - The Big Jubilee Lunch Initiative, people are being encouraged to join their neighbours to celebrate, and decorate their homes and streets, schools and fields with red, white and blue decorations including paper lanterns, party parasols, tissue pompoms and traditional Union jack bunting. A simple idea aiming to get as many of the 61 million people in the UK as possible to have lunch with their neighbours, family and friends for a few hours of 'community, friendship, and fun'.
  • 4th June - live televised BBC concert at Buckingham Palace. A network of 2,012 Beacons will be lit by communities and individuals throughout the United Kingdom, as well as the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and the Commonwealth. The Queen will also light the National Beacon. The Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant will also take place on 4th June and consists of 100 flotillas assembled from across the UK, around the Commonwealth and around the World, the Queen will travel in the Royal Barge which will lead the pageant.
  • 5th June - Service of Thanksgiving at St Pauls' Cathedral followed by a formal Carriage Procession around London by the Queen.

We have a huge range of red Jubilee lanterns, white Jubilee lanterns, and blue Jubilee lanterns, all available from 4" in diameter to 20" in diameter to create a traditional party theme and compliment the Union Jack. Our Jubilee lanterns are available in both paper and nylon - paper lanterns are perfect for use both indoors and out but just in case the great British weather lets us down on over the bank holiday why not use our nylon Jubilee lanterns outside in your garden or down your street to continue the Jubilee celebrations from inside out.

Our Jubilee parasols, each measuring 100cm in diameter when fully opened, are also available in Union Jack red, white and blues and perfect for shielding the sun that we will hopefully see in early June!

The Hanging Lantern Company also stocks a range of rounded petal and spiked petal Jubilee tissue pom poms available in the traditional St George's flag colours of red and white.
