Early in December 2010, before the snow and ice hit the UK, 200 school pupils from Cherry Willingham Community School paraded through Lincoln city centre with scores of brightly coloured paper lanterns.
Each paper lantern contained an LED unit to light the route of the parade. The paper lantern procession was organised by the Lincoln Business Improvement Group in a bid to mark the late night opening of shops in the city during the run up to Christmas, and to encourage shoppers to buy the last few items on their Christmas lists.
The Chinese lantern parade was also a chance for the pupils of Cherry Willingham Community School to enjoy a wonderful seasonal evening with Christmas carols after a difficult year, which saw their school, burnt down.
