The Very Hungry Caterpillar made from paper lanterns

  • The Very Hungry Caterpillar made from paper lanterns

Eric Carles' children's book has been around since 1969 and is still as popular as ever!

Lots of parents want to transform The Very Hungry Caterpillar into their children's birthday party theme but are stuck for decorative ideas. It's very quick and easy to create a colourful birthday party and everything can be tied into the theme including food, invites and decorations.

You can easily use our paper hanging lanterns to create the very hungry caterpillar - all you need is 1 red paper lantern, and 6 green paper lanterns - 3 in grass green and 3 in light lime. The different tones of green lantern will create the caterpillar's body.

Assemble the red hanging lantern to create the caterpillar's head. Cut out two yellow ovals and two smaller green ovals to make his eyes. To create the nose just cut a small green semi-circle and attach it to the red lantern. The antennae have been made by folding two purple pipe cleaners in half and attaching them to the wire frame in the top of the red hanging lantern.

Hang all of the coloured paper lanterns using clear fishing line - why not hang the green lanterns at different heights to give the impression that the very hungry caterpillar is moving.

Now all you need to do is add the food and the children for a great birthday party!
