The Elephant Family is a small but very determined charity which launched in 2002 with a vision of a world where the Asian elephant is no longer an endangered species.
At present they are the only charity in the UK and Ireland working to conserve both wild and captive elephants in India where their habitat and forest homes are diminishing rapidly –according to The Elephant Family, Asian elephants will be extinct by 2050 if populations continue to decrease at the current rate.
There are currently in the region of 250 model elephants decorated by designers and celebrities dotted around central London with some even located at famous landmarks in the capital, including Covent Garden, Selfridges and The Natural History Museum. The elephants will be on display until early July 2010 and then will be auctioned off to the highest bidder raising funds for the charity.
The Hanging Lantern Company was pleased to donate £300 of Chinese paper lanterns to The Elephant Family which are going to be used to decorate the Elephant Parade auction venues. The first of the live auctions is an invitation only event on 30th June 2010 with Goldie Hawn, and the second, the “Elephant Parade Grand Auction & Champagne Brunch” will be held at the Chelsea Royal Hospital on 3rd July 2010.
Chinese lanterns were supplied in white, fuchsia pink and mango orange in various sizes ranging from our smallest at 8” to 20”, and once we receive pictures they will be made available on The Hanging Lantern Company website!
