After being engaged for seven years, we decided it was time to get hitched!
We knew we didn’t want to spend huge amounts on our wedding - our aim was to create a laid-back, chilled out affair where family and friends could be together and enjoy themselves.
The starting point for our decor were our flowers. Having two daughters, Lily and Daisy, it meant a lot to us to incorporate lilies and daisies somehow. We spent a long time agonising over which flowers to add to them and settled on an array of pastel coloured roses. These tied the delicate white daisies and beautiful large pink lilies together well.
We also added some pale yellow Craspedia, known as billy ball flowers! As well as being Frank’s buttonhole choice, these pretty golden spheres brought elements of the countryside to our décor.
Having found our flowers, we knew all of the different pastel shades we wanted our wedding lanterns to be. We had a vast ceiling in the village hall to decorate and had beautiful wooden arches and beams. When we met Aimee and the team we were blown away by their willingness to help and their complete understanding of how all the different colours work together.
We left our first meeting with samples of different shades to compare with our other decorations. We instantly knew the right colours to go for and were extremely happy with our pastel lanterns, they harmonised beautifully with our flowers and general theme. Aimee suggested the best sizes for our village hall and even offered to hang our lanterns for us!
However, we decided we would get our families involved and have a ‘decorate the venue’ day on the eve of our wedding. The children loved it and everyone really felt like they were part of our wonderful experience. As advised by Aimee, we used fishing line to create the illusion of floating lanterns and hung each row in a random pattern. They looked stunning.
It was the soft sweetie coloured lanterns that actually inspired us to use sweetie jars as our table centrepieces and the pastel colours led us to come up with table names including ‘The Bon Bons’ and ‘The Mini Eggs’. Our guests helped themselves to the yummy sweets and took them home as favours. This idea really added to the relaxed atmosphere as the children spent the day wandering around offering and swapping sweets! They looked adorable.
With candles and bunting, our look was complete but the talking point of the reception was definitely the beautiful wedding lanterns floating above our heads. With the weather behaving itself, our perfect wedding day ran flawlessly.
We cannot thank The Hanging Lantern Company enough for guiding and helping us with our lanterns. They do and will always make up a big part of our wedding memories! I’m told that the lanterns were very easy to remove…………but we were long gone on our way to our honey moon at that point! I intend to bring out our lovely balls of pastel coloured puffs for a small 1st anniversary party in our back garden. The perfect way to remember our village spring wedding!
