Tanya and Nick popped into our Sussex showroom with Tanya’s wedding planning Mum, on the way to their food tasting session in March 2013. Along with Tanya’s 1920s engagement, a peacock feather provided a lot of the inspiration for their wedding décor, stationary and general feel, with the bridal couple having loved the organic shapes and colours on them. And so a trendy 1920s, Art Deco, Gatsby wedding with paper hanging lanterns was in the making.

We asked Tanya if there was any inspiration behind having paper lanterns: “it was partly dictated by the space, as with the high ceilings and beams we needed to make the space more cosy, and partly because I have loved coloured lanterns since travelling in South East Asia so I knew they would look really pretty and add the right level of impact/colour. Your gallery of images confirmed that choice and you have a great selection of colours”.

The wedding was booked for 7th September 2013 after they fell in love with The Riding School at Firle Place as soon as they set eyes on it. The stunning venue was also conveniently located next door to St Peters Church where they held their ceremony.

We all spent a lot of time looking at different wedding lantern sizes and walked around the paper lantern warehouse, peacock feather in hand to choose some complimentary colours. Once the colours were narrowed down the design process could begin. Nick’s amazing 3D visions meant we could all quickly and easily envisage different ways of hanging the paper lanterns. This is now a tool we have developed to help future bridal couples plan their wedding lantern look!

“As the space was so big (15m wide by 38m long), Nick produced an impressive 3D mock up using google sketch up to help us visualise the room and plan out the colour pattern and positioning of the lanterns. We chose an extra-large lantern above the black and white checked dance floor with a colour changing light bulb inside, and we made an art deco inspired paper fan display in deep purple and gold to add a bit of drama!"

Tanya and Nick chose ivory, teal, blue and gold lanterns in 3 different to decorate the Riding School in organised straight lines across the width of the room. The blue and teal lanterns were perfect shades to complement the groom’s tie! The also choose to highlight their dance floor area with one extra large white paper lantern illuminated by an LED colour changing light bulb.

What a stunning vintage, but bang on trend wedding that will remain one of our favourites to help with and see the results of!! Thanks to Sara Reeve for pictures and of course Nick and Tanya for sharing their day with us.
