Chinese and Hungarian artists, acrobats, and musicians greeted the Chinese Year of the Horse on 1st February 2014 at the Lunar New Year Festival in Budapest, Hungary.

Our small, medium and large traditional red Chinese hanging lanterns were used to decorate the shopping centre where games of mah-jong were played, calligraphy signs were written, martial arts sequences were performed and the event culminated in great joy as a traditional lion dance was performed. The story of the traditional Chinese Lion Dance can be traced back in history more than a thousand years and there are many legends surrounding the origin. However, according to traditional the lion dance is performed to drive away evil spirits and bring good luck and wealth. Whilst the lion itself symbolises strength and courage.

Use our traditional Chinese Lanterns around your home during Chinese New Year celebrations to bring light into the home and replicate the lion’s effect of driving away evil spirits. Cluster 3 red lanterns in your porch or a bay window at the front of your home. Or if celebrating Chinese New Year with a party or at a fundraiser why not hang lots of large traditional red lanterns in straight lines above the crowds to set the scene for the event.
