Multi-coloured paper lanterns brighten the Phoenix Room at the Olympic Pavilion

Sarah and Lee tied the knot at the American style Olympic Pavilion which is part of the Trailfinders Sports Club in London. The Phoenix room is enormous, holding 250 seated guests, and the couple felt it needed some colour injected into the space to liven it up. The neutral walls and multiple large windows bring in so much light that the room can look pale and vast so our paper hanging lanterns offered a simple solution to add not just the colour but also to create a more intimate scene. Sarah was concerned about the angular beams and large industrial pipes looking too harsh for a wedding venue so the soft and smooth shape of our round hanging lanterns helped to disguise the metal work.

With such a large venue it is often difficult to find an effective method of decorating the space with maximum impact but one that is still budget friendly. Initially Sarah and Lee used the dimensions of the room to calculate how many hanging lanterns they would need, however, they didn’t want to compromise on the look as they knew that without the colourful lanterns the room would look very plain. In the end Natalie, our advisor, switched the scenario to work within a budget; so Natalie selected a wide variety of small, medium and large lanterns, with hanging accessories and Buttonlites to total £400. Over 100 round lanterns in six sizes were used from 8” up to 20” diameter which created a full canopy across the whole wedding ceremony and reception.
